In our context learning English is essential. Both for personal development and professional success, it is very important to acquire knowledge and abilities that enable us to express ourselves in this language.
With this course the students will venture into the basics to communicate in this language effectively: talking about themeselves keeping a conversation in the present tense, giving indications of places, learning the numbers and measurement units, describing daily activities, and so on. The English course is included in the disciplinary field of communication, together with the Reading and Writing Workshop. It is also directly related to Information Techno- logy, where this language is normally used.
The main purpose of this course is for the student to incorporate the knowledge acquired into the daily communicative practice. It is therefore important for the student to understand that learning this language will not only be useful in getting along with everyday life and immediate situations, but it will also help them expand their mind and possibilities.
This course confirms the importance of competence development, while seeking to reinforce socio-emotional abilities. In order to achieve meaningful learning it includes some learning activities that bring together the cross axis elements established in the curriculum, that is: social, environmental, health and reading abilities. This is intended to help students understand the relationship among different aspects of their everyday lives and reinforcing a comprehensive and humanistic education, with ethical values and social commitment.
In sum, the purpose of this course is to contribute to the education of citizens and professionals who, in addition to possessing the essential tools for developing their potentials, are aware of the basic demands of our society, such as the protection of the environment, respect for diversity and tolerance to diversity.
